If you're like me and refuse to admit that summer is finally over then the best place to go is the sand sculpture festival in Brighton. But hurry, as this weekend is the final showing!
The collection of sand sculptures explore different parts of the world, famous monuments, people and animals of note. 16 professional sculptors managed to create this collection in just over 9 days! The sculptures are simply made of sand and water and are surprisingly robust. This is because the rainwater bleeds into the sand and is later evaporated once the rain has stopped. Very few sculptures were damaged by the rain and the team was on hand if anything needed to be retouched. The longest a sand sculpture has lasted on record is over a year.
Some of my favourite sculptures from the exhibition are shown below.
South Pole by Kuba Zimacek |
Ganesha: India by Arianne Van Rosmalen |
Elephant by Rachel Stubbs |
Maori Haka by Baldrick Buckle |
La Sagrada Familia: Spain by Maxim Gazendom |
The information given about how the sculptures were made, the sculptures themselves and the friendly staff make this a site you'd be a fool to miss! The sculptures are magnificent and the pure skill put into making them astounding! Head on over to Brighton so that you can enjoy these pieces for yourself.
