Marlene Dumas

Friday 1 May 2015

The distressing and thought provoking art of Marlene Dumas is currently on display at the Tate Modern. If you're macho enough to visit her psychologically charged works then you better get your running shoes on as the exhibition closes on the 10th May.

Dumas, one of the most respected artists today, first came to prominence in the mid-1980s. She uses 'secondhand images' - drawing from people that she has seen in public, her family and celebrities, such as Naomi Campbell, Princess Diana and Amy Winehouse. Her work is captivating, disturbing and extremely political. It is not for the faint hearted!

My favourite pieces from the collection are most definitely her portraits of celebrities. They are fantastic and immediately recognisable! Check them out below, or go and see them firsthand at the Tate. You won't be disappointed, that is a fact!
